CHANDIGARH: On the occasion of International Men's Day, Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) and 'Parivar Raksha Samiti', an NGO that provides moral and legal support to men and their families who have suffered partner violence, organised an awareness programme at Press Club, Sector 27, on Thursday.
The NGO members have submitted a list of demands to the PM, the president, and the law ministry. Elaborating on the type of discrimination faced by men, Nitin Gupta, an activist of SIFF, said, "Men pay more taxes than women at the same salary level. There is no protection for them against sexual harassment at workplace. Also, no schemes are being furthered by either government or eminent social celebrities for boys the way these are done for girls. This has led to more boys dropping out of school."
The key areas of concern deliberated upon were – men's welfare, promotion of gender equality, abolishment of biased and in-human laws and modification in maintenance laws. The participants were told about the misuse of anti-dowry laws and other woman protection laws.
